cooking/food headcanon

seeing this, i was like, huh thats kinda boring. but i thought about it and besides the fact that desmond is very talented (due to having the life experience of like 4 people crammed into his adult years. seriously i cannot tell how old desmond is meant to be but whatever it is, its’ not enough), i think he’d be a good/decent cook because it occurred to me that desmond had to take care of his three younger brothers when he growing up. so mum and dad are out of the picture for whatever reason and desmond, i assume, becomes a Dad Figure at a young age. thus he had to cook for himself and his siblings for a long time

he’d also be efficient at cooking/preparing food even more so due to his 3 years in the hatch, wherein all tasks had to be done quickly and within 108 minutes. and that includes sleep. so imagine he can cook good and fast

• as for food, well its stated he likes whiskey and haggis. because scottish 
• my friends & i have joked that he can’t handle anything spicy so, that too
• he isn’t very picky about food in general due to the points i mentioned above, he grew up providing and living off basic keeping alive foods. and during the hatch years, he lived to survive, instead of living to live. and i imagine it was near impossible to enjoy stimuli at all under those circumstances. his life in that hatch was short sleep, exercise, shower, eat, push button, and so on. the food wasn’t bad, he just didn’t care
• post-hatch he can finally recover from his really fucked up sleep schedule and thus regain his ability to enjoy things like drinks and foods
• basically i imagine he has simple tastes. not much’d put him off. like whatever gets served at a dinner party, he isn’t likely to complain
